Look at the evidence
What did the anxiety studies find?
Selank has been studied in people with anxiety.
The next question is what kind of research, and how far its results can take you.
A comparison with another calming drug
A Russian anxiety study published in 2008 compared Selank with medazepam, an older calming medicine, in 62 patients.a
The authors said both medicines eased anxiety to a similar degree.a
A dummy treatment looks like the medicine being tested but has no active ingredient.
There was no dummy-treatment group, so this study cannot establish that Selank did better than no treatment.a
A study of Selank as an added medicine
In a Russian study published in 2015, all 70 patients received phenazepam, an older calming medicine; 40 also received Selank.b
The authors said scores for symptoms of depression improved sooner with Selank added than with phenazepam alone. They also reported fewer unwanted effects from phenazepam, including sleepiness and memory trouble. The recorded summary does not say how much sooner the scores improved.b
This study tested Selank alongside phenazepam, so it cannot answer how Selank would work alone.b
What the summaries leave out
The English study summaries do not say whether chance decided which patients received each treatment. Without that detail, it is harder to judge whether differences between the groups affected the results.a
The source links below lead to short summaries, rather than the full studies. Ask the clinician what the full study says about how its groups were chosen.
What would you like the clinician to explain?
Which comparison matters for your concern? What conclusion is being drawn from it? Ask where that conclusion stops.
